JACOB Murphy is looking to lead Southend United’s loan rangers during the remainder of the season.

The winger, who is with the Shrimpers from Norwich City until the start of May, is staying in the same hotel as three of the club’s other temporary signings: Jamar Loza, John Egan and Jakub Sokolik.

And Murphy hopes to be able to match the impact made by the other three as Blues bid to secure a place in the League Two play-offs.

“I know how well they’ve been doing and it would be great if I was able to also play a part in the team getting more good results while I’m here,” said the 19-year-old winger.

“I know Jam from Norwich and having him here has softened the first few days of being at a new club.

“But the four of us in the same hotel have our dinner together so I’ve actually settled in really well and it feels like I’ve been here for a long time already.”

Murphy made his Shrimpers debut as a second half substitute during Saturday’s 1-0 win against Torquay United at Roots Hall.

The victory pushed Blues up to sixth in the standings and Murphy has already been impressed by his new team-mates.

“The team is well set up here and you can tell that everyone is really in it for each other as well,” said Murphy.

“I can’t wait to fit into that myself a bit more and I’m looking forward to the games we have coming up because it’s a good experience for me.

“I want to show everyone at Southend what I can do and I want to show everyone at Norwich as well.”

Murphy will be hoping to start at Cheltenham Town this weekend and help Blues secure a third win in succession.

His fellow loanees – centre-backs Egan and Sokolik – will be aiming for a fourth clean sheet in a row while Loza and striker Lee Barnard will be keen to again catch the eye in attack.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown has revealed he would love to keep the loan players at the club beyond the end of the season.

“I think we’ve seen the quality they all have and I would love them to be part of the future of this club,” said Brown.

“Whether that’s on loan again or actually signing them I’m not sure, but I would love them to be here for the next couple of years if possible.”
