WESTCLIFF High School for Girls’ under-16 netball team have been crowned Essex and Southend district champions.
The squad beat Sydney Russell School in the county final and were dominant from the first quarter, winning 38-20.
Their dominance was clear in the borough championships with no team getting close to them.
Meanwhile, the school’s under-19 netball team came agonisingly close to winning a county title of their own.
After battling their way to the final they found Chelmsford County High School a step too far and were beaten 21-13.
It was a case of so near so far too for the school’s under-14 hockey team, who had a superb run to the Essex Plate final.
They faced Hockerill College in the final where they gave their opponents a real test before eventually losing 3-1. Leticia Douglass scored for WHSG from a cross provided by Zaynah Rheman.
The under-13s hockey team have had a fantastic year too, reaching their own county final without conceding a goal on their way to the showdown.
But in the final they suffered heartbreak – losing 1-0 to Newport Free Grammar after a last-minute goal.
