FITZWIMARC School had two teams competing at the National Schools Gymnastics Finals with the under-14s finishing a magnificent second overall.

The under-14s performed to a high standard throughout but particularly impressed on the vault as the squad of Alfie Richer, Reuben Talbot, James Harris, Jamie Cowling, Daniel Cooper, Samuel Doyle and Chris Tabbitt finished a superb second at the championships in Stoke.

The senior boys or under-19 team of Josh Hayton, Kareem Codabaccus, Aaron Fishlock, Liam Davies, Joel Milne, Luke Hayton and Kallum Fletcher also impressed, finishing fourth, only just missing out on third place.

Lynne Kelly, FitzWimarc School’s gymnastics coach, said: “It was an incredibly strong field of teams in both the under-14 and under-19 boys’ competition.

All the boys were professional in both their appearance and performance.

Year 11 pupils Josh Hayton (the boys gym captain) and Megan Clark (assistant coach) were thrilled by the performance of both teams and feel that all the hard work and dedication at training paid off.

“To have two teams from one school at a National Gymnastics Final is an incredible achievement and one which we will always remember.”
