A MIGHTY throw – the length of more than three double decker buses – won St Hilda’s School pupil Isobel Moore a gold medal at the Indepedent Schools Association (ISA) national finals in Birmingham.

Isobel, nine, joined fellow St Hilda’s School pupil Emma Bateman, 12, as competitors represented in the East Anglian team at the championships.

Her throw of 32.61m proved to be unbeatable and she also win a silver medal as part of the relay team.

Head of sports at the Westcliff school, Emma Blainey, said: “Isobel has a natural sporting talent even as a sprinter and a jumper. Both Isobel and Emma are enthusiastic and committed to sport. Above all they really enjoy their sports.”

Emma, who won a gold medal in the regional finals for 800m and a silver in the relay, was placed 10th in 800m national championships. Headmistress Susan O’Riordan said: “We are very proud of the girls, they were competing against the best in the country and few people achieve that.”
