Bognor Regis Town 0-1 East Thurrock United
From Nyewood Lane
Ryman Premier
EAST Thurrock won on the road for the second time in four days thanks to a Lewis Smith goal.
Smith’s first half goal proved enough, only four days after Rocks had won 2-1 at Leiston, and the visitors rarely looked like conceding in what was an impressive defensive display.
The home team started well, with Hopkinson striking just over and John Coventry’s team struck the decisive blow just inside the half hour.
Smith beat the offside trap and slotted underneath his namesake into the net and that was how it stayed until the break.
Mitchell Gilbey had a chance to double the lead after the break with good work from Smith before David Hughes was tested by Pearce and Hopkinson.
At the other end Reece Harris sent Smith sprawling to keep the score 1-0.
The game was as good as won with five minutes to go when Medway was given his marching orders for a second yellow card and substitute Manny Osei should have opened his account for Coventry’s men in injury time but his effort was saved.
East Thurrock: Hughes, Witherspoon, Stephen, Peddie, Wood, Symons, Bryant, Gilbert, Higgins, Smith, Harris. Subs: Sammons, Parmenter, Osei, Anderson, Boswell.
