DIVER Oliver Dingley, who won a bronze medal for England at the Commonwealth Games, is to compete for the Republic of Ireland from now on.

Dingley qualifies through an Irish born grandparent.

And he will be following coach Damian Ball in making the move from the Southend Diving Centre at Garon Park to Dublin.

“The move to Ireland is an exciting one, Oliver sees it as a great opportunity to compete at both the Rio and Tokyo Olympics and I’m very excited by the prospect of supporting him while developing and leading diving in a whole country,” said Ball.

“I’ve coached Oliver since he was six years old and we were both in Harrogate. He then followed me to Southend and now to Ireland as well.”

Dingley won a bronze medal in the three metre springboard final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow back in July.
