SOUTHEND United's assistant manager Dave Penney was happy to see the Shrimpers get the job done against Cheltenham Town on Tuesday evening.

A first half brace from the on loan Joe Pigott secured Blues a 2-0 win at Roots Hall.

And, despite a dreary second half display, Penney remained delighted by the result.

“All you can do is pick up three points and that’s exactly what we did,” said Penney.

“ We were comfortable and probably took our foot off the pedal a little bit in the second half instead of going for the jugular. “But that’s human nature and overall I think it's been a good night.

“It was a very professional performance from us.”

Blues moved up to fourth in the League Two table with their fourth win in five games.

And Penney was full of praise for the in-form Pigott who bagged both of Blues' goals to take his tally to four in six games.

“Joe’s been great for us,” said the former Doncaster Rovers boss.

“He’s struck up a good partnership with Jake Cassidy and they are causing teams problems. “At this moment in time Joe’s getting the goals and it was nice to see him get another couple tonight.”
