Great Wakering Rovers 2-2 Dereham Town
From Burroughs Park
Ryman One North
GREAT Wakering Rovers came from two goals down to secure a valuable point against promotion-chasing Dereham Town.
Rovers had only won one of the last six and were facing a team who were in fine form.
Having lost only one of the last 10 games, Town arrived in Great Wakering confident of another three points, especially having been two goals clear with just over 30 minutes remaining.
But an own goal and a 15th of the season for Jay Nash brought Rovers level with 15 minutes remaining.
It didn’t look as though Rovers would take anything from the game after a difficult start to the game.
Dereham, who had crushed Tilbury 4-1 in the week created a number of early openings and took the lead midway through the first period, with Liam Wales slotting home a well-taken penalty.
It was 1-0 at the break but that was doubled soon after when Craig Bussens found the target.
At 2-0 down, Dan Trenkel’s side were staring down the barrel of another defeat but they fought back impressively.
First it was Tom Ranger’s deflected effort via Harry Barker that beat away goalkeeper Andy Wilton.
And then up popped Nash to fire Rovers level and claim a share of the points.
Great Wakering Rovers: Seal, Pugsley, Kent, Skeels, Smith, Skelton, Radley (Jacobs), Ranger, Worrell (Bradley), Nash, Strickland (Johnson)
