SOUTHEND High School’s Olivia Sofroniou will be lining up in the World Schools Athletics Championships for the second time.

The 17-year-old, from Billericay, will take part in the 800m, javelin and relay. And she is certain it will be another momentous occasion.

“I was lucky enough to go to the World Schools in the Czech Republic two years ago so to go again is an incredible opportunity,” said Sofroniou.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable last time and I’m sure it will be again.

“The adrenaline really gets you through the competition and I’m very excited about going.”

However, Sofroniou also admitted to having been incredibly nervous about whether or not she would be selected to make the trip to China.

“We had to wait over the Easter holidays and we found out the week we got back,” she said.

“We were all really nervous but when I found out I was so proud. To be team captain as well is a huge honour and I want to be an incredible ambassador for the school.”
