ECHOSPORT’S Southend United reporter Chris Phillips has penned a new book looking back at the promotion Blues secured from League Two last season.

The 142-page book is packed full of match reports, interviews and action photographs from the memorable campaign which culminated in the Shrimpers winning promotion in a dramatic play-off final against Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley.

And Phillips hopes the book proves to be a popular purchase for Southend’s supporters.

“It was such an exciting end to the season that I thought it would be great to put together a book on it all and hopefully it will go down well with the fans,” said Phillips.

“It was hard work putting it all together, but it was good fun at the same time because a few of incidents I had actually forgotten about, so it was nice going back through every game and re-living it all.

“Obviously winning at Wembley meant the season ended on a huge high and it’s easily my favourite moment in my 26 years watching the club so I thought it would be nice to do a book on it.

“I still have ones on the club from when I was a kid and I’m really pleased with how it’s been designed and put together.”

The book, which has been supported by the Hood Group, has been designed by Three Five Four-Creative Print and is available for £12.

It will be on sale in the Shrimpers Bar before Saturday’s game with West Ham United and Meet the Blues Day this Sunday.

However, Echosport has five copies of the book to give away.
