TEAM spirit was what saw Billericay Town reach the final of the Ryman Premier League play-offs, according to their spot-kick hero Jamie Dormer.

The Blues captain secured an unlikely victory for his side by blasting home the winning penalty to break Chelmsford City's hearts.

And the 27-year-old midfielder, whose side played with 10 men for more than an hour, insisted it was all down to his team's togetherness.

"The camaradie we have in our camp is tremendous and that's what saw us through in the end," insisted Dormer, pictured above wheeling away after scoring the final penalty.

"Even when we went down to 10 men, I thought we looked dangerous going forward and I never thought the game was over even when there wasn't long left."

Billericay were eventually rescued by Chris Whelpdale, who volleyed home an injury-time leveller.

But the scores were still level after extra time and the teams could only be separated on penalties, with Dormer converting the decisive kick to the delight of his side's supporters.

"I did feel quite confident stepping up to take it and it was great to see it go in," he said.

"It happened before when we played Maldon Town in a cup competition during pre-season and it was just brilliant that we've got through."

Despite that, Dormer was quick to point out that the job was only half done.

But he is confident that Billericay will be celebrating again on Saturday in the final when Town face Bromley, who beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 in the other semi-final last night.

"It was an enjoyable night but we can't get carried away," he said.

"We haven't got promotion just yet but I really think we can do it this weekend."
