THE PREVIEW: Canvey are looking for a morale boosting victory against VCD Athletic tonight after losing three matches on the bounce.
League defeats to Grays and Kingstonian, plus a surprise defeat in the FA Cup to lower league opposition, has put added emphasis on tonight’s clash, with the Gulls favourite to get points on the board.
VCD are second-bottom of the standings, with only Farnborough, who have played four games fewer, below them.
Canvey sit 15th in the table, and a win would potentially be enough to see them climb into the top half.
WHAT HE SAID: Canvey manager Danny Heale said: “We know it is a big game. We do need to pick up a few results but the performances have been there in recent weeks.
“Individuals errors cost us against Kingstonian and that has killed us. We dominated for long periods and that is encouraging. Tambeson (Eyong) got sent off for a kick and he has apologised to the team as that cost us. If we keep putting in performances like we have been doing then I am sure we will be fine tonight.”
FORM GUIDE: LLLWW
TEAM NEWS: Centre-back Richard Halle is suspsended otherwise Danny Heale will pick from the same squad that lost to Kingstonian.
