Canvey Island 2-1 VCD Athletic
From the Frost Financial Stadium
Ryman Premier League
CANVEY Island recorded a moral boosting win against VCD Athletic thanks to top scorer Martin Tuohy.
The striker scored in each half to condemn VCD to defeat, and hand manager Danny Heale his first win in four matches.
Tuohy had opened the scoring out of nothing after 25 minutes, with a fine effort from more than 20 yards, with the striker denied soon after by away goalkeeper Rob Budd.
Gulls stopper Conor Gough made a terrific save to keep the advantage but Aaron Wickham did level the match just before the break, scoring from the edge of the box.
The winning goal came on the hour mark. Ashley Dumas crossed for Tuohy and the striker showed an instinctive finish to bury a finish past Budd.
Both sides missed great late chances, meaning the points stayed on Canvey.
Canvey Island: Gough, Eyong, Dumas, Miller-Rodney, Sheehan, Yiga, Agywakwa, Poole, Tuohy (Lawson), Gilchrist (Coley), Carvalho (Adeniji)
