WHATEVER the outcome of today's Ryman Premier play-off final between Billericay Town and Bromley, the match will represent the last game in Town colours for Chris Whelpdale.

The 20-year-old student, who joined the New Lodge set-up in October from Maldon Town, has proved a sensation and has played a major part in Billericay's bid to play Blue Square Southern soccer next season.

Now the popular player, who has been courted by a host of Football League clubs, looks set to sign for League Two Peterborough United soon after the weekend.

"Chris is a wonderful talent who can play in a variety of positions and full deserves his chance to move up," said Billericay boss Matt Jones.

"At the moment it looks like he'll go to Peterborough, who have offered him a four-year deal, which is very unusual for a non-league player.

"At the moment they have made the best offer for Chris and Billericay, and all he and ourselves would love now is for him to say farewell by us winning today."

The match kicks-off at 1.30pm at Bromley and a large number of Billericay fans are expected to be cheering on Jones' troops.

Town will be without the suspended Rikki Burbridge, but it is expected that striker Joe Flack will have recovered from recent hamstring problems to start.
