SOUTHEND ended their season on a low note with a 4-1 defeat away to Southampton.

The win ensured the Saints a berth in the Championship play-offs.

Blues took the lead through Adam Barrett's 13th minute volley.

But Kenwyne Jones' header levelled the scores just before half-time.

Southampton took the lead when Leon Best scored shortly after the restart and then added the third 10 minutes from time.

Jones completed his brace to secure the win.
