CANVEY Island moved up to fourth in the Essex One standings with a narrow 18-16 win at Stanford le Hope.
The Islanders were forced to bring in seven second team players and six of their starting line-up were under the age of 21.
However, they dug in well to record a narrow victory.
Flanker Bradley Horton and scrum half John Breading both scored tries while Jon Edwards added a drop goal, a conversion and a penalty to secure the win which delighted Canvey coach Rob Edwards.
"Blooding one or two youngsters into a side is not too bad but we had to bring six on Saturday to an already young team,” said Edwards.
“But I thought their response was immense"
