EAST Thurrock United midfielder Tom Wraight says no-one will be under-estimating high-flying Hampton & Richmond Borough come their match tomorrow.

Hampton are one of the division’s surprise packages this season, and are currently sitting in second in the Ryman Premier League.

But Wraight, one of Rocks’ top performers this term, is plotting their downfall after a bright start to his Rookery Hill career.

The 21-year-old joined from Witham in the summer and has netted five goal so far, garnering rave reviews for his displays down the left flank.

And, in hotshot Sam Higgins’ injury absence, Wraight says he is pleased to contribute in an attacking sense while admitting he is determined to enjoy a winning season this season.

“I am really enjoying my football at the moment,” said Wraight, who has previously trialled at Ipswich Town and Barnet. “There is a positive feeling in the group and we know we have the potential to do something special this season, and we are all enjoying playing.

“For me it is all about winning and this weekend is no different. Hampton might have surprised a few people with how they are doing this season but they beat us 2-1 earlier in the season and looked a good side.”

“I have been among the goals recently and it is always nice to chip in with a few along the way. With Higgo out of the side the rest of us need to step up and we have been doing that. We have scored seven goals in the last two matches he has been out and that is encouraging.

“There are goals running through this team and we are spreading them around. I was playing in a deeper role earlier in the year so scoring opportunities were harder to come by but I am getting in better positions now and getting the rewards.

“I am not a player who will make a fuss,” he said. “I will play wherever the manager wants me too but I like getting forward and scoring goals so a more advanced position suits that. But I will play anywhere.

Wraight left Witham last summer after a long season which culminated in relegation. And he admitted it was nice to be concentrating on the other end of the table this time around.

“It was a very different experience at Witham,” admitted Wraight. “With them it was all about survival and, although we didn’t achieve that, it made me a better player. We have different objectives as East Thurrock as we want to challenge at the top and we are heading in the right direction.”
