SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has confirmed Bury are interested in signing winger David Worrall.
Shakers boss David Flitcroft has held talks with Brown in a bid to bring the 25-year-old back to Gigg Lane for a third spell.
But Brown insists he will only accept a deal if Shakers star Danny Mayor moves in the opposite direction.
“There’s been no actual bid from Bury as far as I’m aware but they are certainly interested in David Worrall,” confirmed Brown.
“I spoke to David Flitcroft who was enquiring about Dave so at the same time I enquired about a swap deal for Danny Mayor.
“I knew Danny had been here before and thought he might be interested in coming a club higher up the table who hope to be in the Championship next season.
“But I’ve since found out Danny is from the north-west and my enquiry fell on deaf ears.”
Worrall has been in and out of the Shrimpers side so far this season and has been on the bench for two of the last three games.
However, Brown is keen for the winger to extend his spell at Roots Hall and put pen to paper on a new deal.
“I have twice offered David a contract and if he wants to stay then he’ll sign it,” said the 56-year-old.
“If he doesn’t then he’ll move on and we’ll have to look at getting somebody else in.”
Worrall joined Blues at the start of last season and played a key part in them winning promotion from League Two.
The winger, who scored a memorable winner at Bury last season, has made 70 appearances for the Shrimpers and has netted eight goals.
