CANVEY Island trounced Witham 160-0 in Essex One B.
Witham turned up at Tewkes Creek with a bare 15 and without a full front row making for uncontested scrums.
But, apart from the set scrum Witham hardly had any possession of the ball, and the Islanders went on a try fest with prop Luke Lanza leading the way as he touched down five times.
Jack Chandler scored four and Jason Carter three as he became the oldest person to score a hat trick of tries for the club.
Jason Lansley also scored three and Charlie Clarke and Dan Gillett two while Jason Fardell ,Scott Floyd, Brett Smith and Dave Dennis also touched down.
Jon Edwards kicked 20 out of 24 conversions.
But Canvey spokesman Richard Smith still praised Witham’s spirit.
“A massive thumbs up to Witham for turning up and keeping their heads up,” said Smith.
“When it was suggested the game ended early they said no and wanted to play it out.”
The victory saw Canvey move upto second in the table.
