RYMAN NORTH: Great Wakering Rovers manager Keith Wilson has said the first 15 minutes will be critical against VCD Athletic tonight.
The Kent side were surprisingly beaten 4-0 by basement club Wroxham on Saturday and will be desperate for a response against Wakering, another side struggling in the Ryman North relegation places.
Wakering drew 1-1 with Romford on Saturday, making it two games without defeat - something they had not managed since the end of August.
And Wilson is now targeting three matches unbeaten for the first time this term when they make the trip to 12th-placed VCD.
“VCD were well beaten on Saturday and I expect them to come out and have a go but we should be going there in confident mood and there is no reason we can’t make it three unbeaten,” he said.
“We are two games unbeaten and that is something at this stage but we must keep going and everyone here knows that.”
Wakering had led against Romford on Saturday through John Easterford’s sixth minute goal but they were pegged back before both sides wasted promising chances in the closing minutes.
And Wilson says a point was fair come the final whistle.
“It was a funny game against Romford,” he said. “We got a brilliant start scoring after just six minutes but it was almost a case of scoring too early and Romford were the better side in that half. We improved in the second-half and we could have nicked it in the end but they came very close as well so it was a fair result.”
Steve Butterworth is a potential injury doubt but otherwise Wakering are at full strength for the trip.
