SOUTHEND United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has been ruled out of this afternoon’s clash at Shrewsbury Town after injuring his hamstring in training.
Wordsworth has been replaced in the starting line-up by John White who lines at left-back with Michael Timlin moving into midfield.
But Blues boss Phil Brown is not sure when Wordsworth will be back in action.
“It was a late setback in training for Woody and I would imagine he would miss the Bury game as well,” said Brown.
“After that who knows but it’s a blow because he’s been in such good form and was hoping to equal or better his best ever goal tally of 16.
“He first suffered the problem at Chesterfield and I was as amazed as anyone when he was fit to train the Sunday after that.
“He was adamant he didn’t want to lose his place in the team but now we’re going to have to cope without him.”
Southend United: Walton, Demetriou, Thompson, Ferdinand, White, Atkinson, Leonard, Timlin, McLaughlin, Cox, Ranger
Substitutes: Bexon, O’Neill, Fortune, Amos, McGlashan, Hines & Robinson
