WESTCLIFF Lawn have unveiled three new artificial clay courts.

Lawn’s oldest playing member, Pat Thrale, cut the ribbon to officially open the courts.

And the club’s Steve Wynn revealed members cannot wait to try out the new surface.

“We believe we are now the only club in South East Essex with clay courts and members are looking forward to playing on them,” said Wynn.

“We have three new artificial clay courts and the honour of cutting the ribbon was bestowed upon the club’s oldest playing member, Pat Thrale.”

Westcliff will also be joining in with the Great British Tennis Weekend on Saturday.

Wynn added: “We will open the doors of the tennis club to the public and show them what fantastic facilities we have, to try and tempt them to join our club. Anyone, regardless of age, is welcome to come along and have a go at playing tennis.”
