SARACENS legend Kris Chesney believes it is a ‘travesty’ Jackson Wray has yet to be selected for England.

The Thorpe Bay based Chesney made more than 300 appearances for Saracens during his own career.

And he does not understand how Wray has not been capped by his country.

“I have to say I think it’s a travesty that Jackson hasn’t been picked for England yet,” said Chesney.

“He’s playing week in, week out for the top team in Europe and yet he hasn’t been given a chance for England which I don’t understand.

“I know how he must be feeling because I had the same happen in my career too.

“I was getting picked for all the big games with Saracens but never got an England cap and it can damage you at times.

“I don’t think that will happen with Jackson and all he can do is keep on doing what he’s doing.

“He’s someone who never lets you down and can be relied upon in every aspect of the game. Jackson is also someone I’ve had the pleasure of knowing since he was 14 or 15 in the academy at Saracens and I’m really pleased to see him doing so well.”

Wray’s latest success came in the Champions Cup final on Sunday as Saracens defended their European crown.

And Chesney is not sure why England boss Eddie Jones - who he worked with between 2007 and 2009 at Saracens - continues to ignore the former King John School student.

“I don’t know why Eddie isn’t picking him,” said Chesney.

“Eddie has three or four others like Jackson in the squad and maybe that’s why he’s not picking him. If James Haskell had been picked by the Lions then I think Jackson would have been in the England squad for Argentina but I would love to see him get a chance soon.”
