CANVEY Island goal-machine George Sykes has joined National League South newcomers Braintree Town…with the Gulls moving quickly to fill by void by signing six new players.

Sykes hit 21 goals last term, earning a host of admirers, and he has now secured a move to Cressing Road, following Braintree’s relegation last season.

However, manager Danny Heale has moved quickly to draft in replacements, with striker David Knight set to replace Sykes in attack as Canvey look to bounce back following their relegation to the Isthmian North.

Knight joins from Bowers & Pitsea, having been a key component in a team that came sixth in the division last season.

Defender Luke Wilson also links up with the Gulls from Bowers, having also played for Billericay Town and Grays Athletic last season.

Former Concord Rangers favourite Sam Collins makes the move across the island, after departing the Beach Boys.

Teddy Nesbitt, another that was playing in the National League South last term with East Thurrock, will strengthen the Gulls in defence or midfield.

Nesbitt’s former Rocks team-mate James Walker will add to Canvey’s forward options.

And midfielder Albert Levett returns to the club, having spent the last four years playing in the USA, while studying at University.

Canvey have retained the services of Marlon Agyakwa, Ryan Blackman, Ashley Dumas, Mitchell Gilbey, Conor Gough, Omarr Lawson, Jake Pitty, Steve Sheehan and Elliott Warren.
