EMILY Scott has been named in the England's Women's squad for the Rugby World Cup.

The fly-half, from Corringham, is one of 28 players to have been called up for the global tournament which kicks off in Dublin at the start of August.

And coach Simon Middleton is confident of securing success.

"We have an incredibly strong squad, made up of hugely experienced players who have featured in previous Women’s Rugby World Cups and other major tournaments such as the Olympics so we're feeling confident,” said Middleton.

“At the same time, we have younger players who have been involved in a Grand Slam-winning side and a successful three-Test series against some of the best teams in the world earlier this month.

"Selection is probably one of the toughest jobs you do as a coach.

"This is not just a squad of the 28 players travelling to Ireland, but represents all those who have contributed so much this season to make this the team it is."

Scott, a former Seevic College student, has won 23 caps for England and was also part of the Team GB sevens squad at last summer's Olympic Games in Rio.

England will face Spain, Italy, USA and Spain in the group stage with all their matches live on ITV.
