BILLERICAY Town have completed the signing of former Arsenal and Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.

The former Champions League finalist played 90 minutes for the Isthmian Premier League side on Saturday – as Billericay lost 2-1 to Leyton Orient in pre-season.

Pennant told the Echo after the game that he would be considering his options this week, after Billericay offered him what is believed to be a two-year contract.

Yesterday, manager Glenn Tamplin said he didn't expect the 34-year-old to join the club.

But he has confirmed Pennant has now signed a contract.

“Jermaine Pennant has signed for Billericay which I am very pleased about,” said Tamplin.

“I said yesterday that we wouldn't be signing him but it was a mix up between the two parties, as we hadn't heard from each other, and he has now signed.

"It is very exciting for us and we have a very strong and experienced core to this team.

“He will start against West Ham United next Tuesday."

Pennant joins former Premier League duo Paul Konchesky and Jamie O'Hara at Billericay.

Billericay have bolstered their squad today, signing Republic of Ireland international right-back Kevin Foley.

Foley, 32, has played more than 300 times in the Football League for clubs including Luton Town, Wolverhampton Wanderers and most recently Coventry City.
