SOUTHEND United striker Marc-Antoine Fortune says he will be fit to face Oxford United tomorrow despite his hamstring injury.

Fortune limped off during the second half at MK Dons on Tuesday night.

But the Frenchman still believes he will be able to line-up against the U’s at Roots Hall this weekend.

“It was just a precaution when I came off,” said Fortune.

“I know my body and I ran a lot on a soft pitch at MK Dons and it was a warning when I got the pain in my leg.

“I know when you have to listen to your body and stop making it worse so I came off, but I’m fit for selection for Saturday now.”

As a result, Fortune will be hoping to stay in the starting line-up after being recalled in attack against the Dons.

Fortune - who created Stephen McLaughlin’s goal at Stadium MK - has now started five of the Shrimpers’ last seven games.

And he is desperate to help Phil Brown’s side record all three points this weekend.

“It’s a must win game for us on Saturday,” said Fortune.

“It was a big disappointment to draw at MK Dons because we played very well in the first half.

“There was only one team on the pitch really and we had enough chances to win.

“We’re back at home, where we are unbeaten, and that sends out a message to the teams coming to us.

“We played well on Tuesday and now we want to keep it going by playing well again on Saturday.

“I’m quite confident about the game and I’m looking forward to it.”
