SOUTHEND United’s frustrated supporters have taken to Twitter to express their views on the team’s troubles.

What should have been a promotion chasing season is slowly becoming relegation threatened. We’re playing awful football which doesn’t work. Our manager has the same rubbish excuse week in week out. I think we should sell Leonard rather than lose him on a free and use that money to bring in a new hungry money

@rylee_doe

No passion from the players. The football we are playing is stagnant and boring. In a time where we should be pressing for promotion we are threatened with League Two football. Disheartened and downtrodden. I’m worried for us this season.

@kylemayhew91

Flat, predictable, little effort. Laughable Leonard situation, not sure why we aren’t selling. Poor squad and poor manager.

@easymorninrebel

Last season we missed out on play-offs by a point. On paper in the summer the squad improved now we’re four points clear of relegation yet all Brown can focus on is how we’re still in the play-off chase. We only have one tactic and it doesn’t work. Could be in trouble.

@samgoody23

We have an ageing squad which has very little spark and end product. We constantly play long balls up to Ranger. It’s almost inevitable we lose away games at the moment but I’ve still bought tickets for Northampton!

@ryan_fleming99

I still believe that under Ron and Phil Brown they will take us back to where we belong.

@garymartin1981

Phil Brown should be given until the end of January to see what he brings in but if he doesn’t improve he should go. At the moment I am 50/50 with him.

@cam0102343

It’s regrettable but we need to change while the new manager has the opportunity to move players in and out in this window. If we do nothing I think we will do well to stay up.

@ianjholmes

Time for change. He’s admitted to players not playing for him. Five defeats in six, four points off relegation and third worse goal difference. We’re on a downward spiral and are now being sucked into a relegation dog fight.

@joe_steward90

Something has to change. The players are no longer responding to Phil Brown. Either he has to go or be backed to make big changes in January as we are sliding towards relegation.

@moorhouse79

We have been on bad runs before but this looks and feels different. Certainly the relationship between the manager and the players looks to have broken down. If Brown is relieved of his duties he can’t have any complaints. The chairman has backed him with the tools to have a go at promotion.
