SOUTHEND Saxons dug deep to see off Dorking 31-26 in their final home game of the season.
Southend have already been relegated from the London & SE Premier Division.
But coach Josh Ward was delighted to see his side produced a spirited display.
“Saturday was special,” said Ward.
“It was all about the players and they were outstanding.
“The first half left us frustrated and a few lapses together with poor discipline gifted them points and position
“But he second half was a mature performance.
“Playing into the wind we retained the ball superbly and executed well.
“The supporters were excellent and played their part in a great day for our club.”
Second from bottom Southend were 19-7 down at the break with scrum-half Ross O’Brien scoring their try.
But, after the break, Seth Robinson, George Wood and Jack McVeigh all touched down with Tom Ramsey adding the conversion to help Saxons fight back.
