AFTER finishing runner-up last year, Ilford AC's Ian Campbell, representing Metropolitan Police AC, won the Basildon 5K in aid of Little Haven's Children's Hospice.

The 47-year-old won in a time of 16 mins 21 secs by 13 seconds from 40-year-old Hendrik Zietsman (Leigh on Sea Strollers), with Paul Wyatt (Billericay Striders) third in 16:45.

Southend AC's Danielle Hurley, 16, was the first female home and was 20th overall in 19:01.

Team victory went to Billericay Striders' men with 27 points from Thurrock Harriers (32) and Benfleet Running Club (46).

The female team winners were Benfleet RC on 123 from Billericay Striders (183) and David Lloyd (581).

The race, which started and finished at Basildon's Gloucester Park, was run in fine and warm conditions with a finishing field of 260.

Estate agents Douglas Allen sponsored the event and backing came from Phoenix Striders, David Lloyd Basildon and First Data International.
