CANVEY Island are keen to give their play-off tilt a further boost when they welcome basement club Norwich United tonight.

The Gulls will fancy their chances against lowly Norwich, who have replaced Romford in the one relegation spot.

However, Norwich have beaten Bowers & Pitsea and Canvey already this term - triumphing 4-3 against Danny Heale’s men earlier this season.

Heale criticised his players’ attitude that day and says the group will be focusing on the goal at hand this time around in Isthmian North.

“We need to be in a good mental state as we are playing the team at the bottom of the league,” said Heale. “We lost 4-3 at their place and had the wrong attitude but that won’t happen again.

“We look good at home and we need to carry that on. All we can do is worry about ourselves. We have two home and two away games left and we will see where we end up. Maldon & Tiptree want to get into the top six and we want to keep them at a distance.

“We won on Saturday and I want a similarly competitive performance tonight.”

In the Essex Senior League, Hullbridge Sports host West Essex knowing a win will all but secure their safety.

And boss Darren Manning has called on his team to deliver a similar performance to the one that beat tonight’s opponents earlier this season.

“I believe it can be done although they are a good side,” he said. “When we turn up, we can beat anyone.”
