SOUTHEND Rugby Club's new fly half Dafydd Lewis believes survival will be the name of the game for the Seasiders this season.

The 26-year-old, who has just joined from Cambridge, knows life will be tough for the Seasiders in National League Two.

But Lewis is looking forward to the challenge and is backing Southend to survive following promotion last season.

"This year we need to stabilise and make sure we stay in this league," he said.

"It's a realistic goal and we will have to target certain games because it will be a very tough season.

"There is a lot more travelling involved because you go down to Redruth in Cornwall and there are a few teams up in Newcastle as well, so it's all a bit different but it will be a good challenge and one we're looking forward to."

Lewis should also be up to the task having represented Wales at under-18, 19, 21 and student levels.

He has also been with Wasps in the past and could not resist a move to Warners Bridge.

"Southend approached me and I came down to have a chat with the coach Kevin Harman," Lewis explained.

"He persuaded me to join and it's a new opportunity to start at a different club.

"It's a fresh start and I can't wait to get started now."
