HARRY Branch has rejoined Southend Saxons.

The scrum half has captained Westcliff for the past two seasons.

But Branch has now decided to head back to the Saxons who he was with before making the switch to Westcliff three years ago.

And he is happy to be returning to Southend.

“I’m very excited to be making my way back to Warners Bridge,” said Branch.

“It’s a good group of players and the coaching staff have high expectations for everyone which is what you want as a player.”

Branch has dropped down a league to join Southend who are looking to rebuild following their relegation from the London & SE Premier Division last season.

And he is looking forward to working with Josh Ward, who took over as the Saxons’ director of rugby towards the end of the previous campaign.

“I was attracted back to Southend as I was previously from the club and I’m looking to improve on what already is a great squad,” said Branch.

“It’s also my family’s club so I’m proud to have the opportunity to be a part of it again and it will be good to work with Josh too.

“Josh has goals that run alongside mine for the season so I’m looking forward to getting the season started.”

Southend will be lining up in London One North next term.

And Branch is targeting a place in the top half of the table.

“Next season I’m looking to achieve professional performances all year round with the team and in doing so putting us in the top half of the table,” said Branch.

“I hope that the Southend spectators will be impressed with the performances we are looking to put together.”

However, Branch also admitted it had been a tough decision to leave Westcliff who he helped to a sixth place finish in the London & SE Premier Division last term.

“My time at Westcliff has been spectacular and I’m so thankful for the opportunity they gave me in terms of being captain for the last few years,” said Branch.

“Coming from bottom of the table to the top half of the table while I was there was fantastic.

“They provided me with the game time I needed to become the player I am today.

“I’ve also made some life long friends from playing at Westcliff.

“I hope they have a great season next year and carry on doing really well.”
