TWO goals from Norman Wabo saw Southend United win the Central League Cup final at MK Dons tonight.

Wabo – who ended the season on loan at National League side Ebbsfleet United – scored both goals in Blues’ 2-0 win at StadiumMK.

And the Shrimpers’ under 23 coach Kevin Maher felt the victory was the perfect end to the season.

“It’s been a long season and a lot of hard work has got into it from a lot of people so this is the best possible way for it to end for everyone,” said Maher.

“We deserved it for that performance and we could even have won by a couple more goals in the end.”

Wabo put Blues in front with a fine finish in the 15th minute before he doubled his tally with another well-taken effort 12 minutes into the second half.

And Maher was full of praise for the striker who ended the season with 23 goals to his name.

“Norman took his goals well and he’s benefitted from the loan spell he had,” said Maher.

“I’m sure he didn’t get as many minutes as he would’ve liked but it’s done him good being in and around first team football.

“But coming back in and scoring those goals summed up his season with us and it was a great way for him to finish the season too.

“However, everyone played their part in a good team performance.”

Blues have now won the Central League Cup twice in the past three years.
