They joined over 100 members and guests for a round of golf and evening entertainment.

With many of the holes being sponsored over £500 was raised for the Captain's Charity.

Vice-captain Bob Meen announced the winners of the various awards which were presented by Wright and Connelly.

The awards included prizes for best chip, longest putt, nearest the ditch, nearest the bell and various other novelty competitions during the round.

The winner of the guest section was Sandra Taylor with 39 points.

James Mower won the cadet section with 46 points. Sonia Mundy won the ladies' competition with 39 points and John Halfhide took the men's contest with 42.

In a brief speech after the presentations Wright thanked everyone warmly for joining him and the other captains in helping to raise funds for Leukaemia Research.

He also thanked Neil Wells for his help in organising a fantastic day along with the staff and management of the Essex Golf Complex for their support in what has become the club's most successful season.

With the strength, in depth, of the cadet golfers and excellent condition of the course, and in particular the greens, Wright said that the future was promising and he looked forward to seeing further development in the coming years.

He anticipated even further progress in all county competitions building upon the success of this year's Thornton Cup team.
