INDIA Harvey is eager to end the season with success this weekend.

The Hockley based centre - who plays her club rugby for the Thurrock T Birds - will captain the Essex side facing the Eastern Counties in the RFU Senior County Championships on Sunday.

And Harvey is determined to grab the victory.

“I’m incredibly excited about making the final, “said Harvey.

“The last few weeks travelling all over England to get here makes it all worthwhile.

“All the hard work from the coaches with planning lots of sessions and trying to recruit players makes Sunday exciting and I hope we can get the win.”

Essex started the County Championships with victories against Warwickshire and Hampshire in the pool stages.

After that, Essex worked their way past Dorset & Wilts in the semi-final to set up Sunday’s clash.

And Harvey is now used to playing alongside different team-mates.

“At first, the training is very different to the sessions at your own club, and the calls are different but ultimately everyone is there for the same reason and same passion and that is to represent our county in the best way possible,” said Harvey.

“This year there is a strong representation from Thurrock however they play just as an important part as all the other players from other clubs.

“It’s good to see everyone come together to get the same result and we want another one at the weekend.”

And Harvey believes Essex will be fired up to win the final, which is being played at Richmond, after just missing out last year.

“We fell short last year and lost in the final to Leicestershire,” said Harvey.

“Essex have never won, at men or women’s level and to have both the men and women in the final on Sunday is an excellent achievement in itself.

“I’m looking forward to captaining the team and hopefully getting the win not only for ourselves but the whole coaching and management team too.”

The men’s team take on Dorset & Wilts in the final and Harvey is hoping for a double celebration.

“The trophy presentations are being held at Twickenham before the England v Barbarians game so it would be great for us both to be there,” said Harvey.

“It’s great for the east of England to have both these sides in the final but we want the wins.”

And the women's coach David Northfield echoed those sentiments.

"We believe that we now have the depth of squad to win the final after our loss last year," said Northfield.

"Our defence is now the best I believe with the girls having attacks that are second to none.

"The achievements and advances they have made over the last four years of our coaching team has made all the coaches extremely proud of them as a squad."

And Essex Rugby's secretary Ivor Smith has also been delighted by the progress of both teams.

"It's going to be a great for Essex county rugby," said Smith.

"It's brilliant to see both teams in the final."
