JACKSON Wray believes the best is yet to come from Saracens.

The former King John School pupil secured the fourth Premiership final success of his career on Saturday after helping Saracens beat Exeter Chiefs 27-10 at Twickenham.

But Wray is hungry to build on the success.

“The coaches are staying, the players are staying and are getting more experienced too so I think we’re going to keep on getting stronger,” said the 27-year-old.

“I would like to think I have a good few years left and that the best is yet to come because I want to keep on helping Saracens win even more trophies.”

Saracens have been the dominant force in English rugby in the past few seasons but were forced to overcome a dip in form this term.

Saracens suffered seven defeats in succession but Wray - who played for Westcliff in his youth - remains proud of how the team bounced back to their best.

“A lot of people were saying a lot of things at that time but we don’t really listen when people build us up and certainly not when they put us down,” said Wray.

“I actually think we learnt from that spell and to come through it like we did and win the final is great.

“There have been plenty of ups and downs and plenty of injuries at times too.

“But in the last few weeks I felt we were unstoppable and we beat some great teams, none more so than Exeter.”

Exeter headed into the game as defending champions and enjoyed plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges.

But Saracens stayed calm and fought back to claim a well-deserved win.

“We knew Exeter would start well because they always do and we were ready for that,” said Wray.

“We knew that had had 90 per cent possession against Newcastle in the semi-final but we had a plan we stuck to and it worked.

“When we got the ball we had to show what we could do and we definitely did.

“We also made amends for the last few times we played them because it hadn’t gone our way.”

And the victory also gave Wray more joy in a memorable end to the season.

“There have been a lot of highs in the last few weeks,” said Wray.

“Getting the player of the year awards was nice and leading the team out with my kids for my 200th game was also a very special moment in the semi-final.

“Winning on Saturday was amazing as well but now we’re looking forward to getting going again, after a bit of downtime.”
