BILLERICAY skipper Lee Knight was left disappointed following his side’s seven wicket defeat at Brentwood.

Billericay made just 157 in their innings before Brentwood made it home for the loss of just three wickets.

And Knight was left feeling frustrated at the close of play.

“Obviously we’re a little disappointed with the result and to only pick up two points but to be fair we were up against a very strong Brentwood side,” said Knight.

“We started well enough with the bat but lost a flurry of wickets once the spinners came on and although we recovered a little to post 150 odd it wasn’t enough.

“Brentwood’s run chase was pretty straightforward.

“Both openers batted well and punished anything loose.

“They put on over a hundred for the first wicket and basically wrapped up the game with that partnership.

“But the best thing we can do is to draw a line under it and go again this Saturday against Chingford at home.”

Darren Ironside - who batted at number three - top scored for Billericay with 51, while opener Aaron Curtis added 30.

Essex bowler Adam Zampa took four Billericay wickets for just 32 runs before Brentwood’s batsmen took centre stage.

Opener Aaron West led the way as he hit a fine 101 to help third-placed Brentwood comfortably make it home.

The defeat left Billericay - who were promoted from Division One last season - sixth in the Premier Division standings.

But they will now be keen to bounce back against fourth-placed Chingford this weekend.
