ROCHFORD Hundred’s director of rugby Chris Green feels the club have signed the most exciting talent in Essex.

Rochford have snapped up former Southend and Thurrock centre Sonny Gay.

And Green cannot wait to start working with Gay once again.

“A fit Sonny Gay is the most exciting player in Essex, in my opinion,” said Green.

“We’ve already started working on his fitness and we are pleased to have been able to bring him in.

“It’s another very good signing for us.”

Gay has seen his progress hindered by injuries in recent seasons but remains determined to prove his worth to Rochford next season.

Hundred won London Two North East without losing a single game last season.

And Gay is keen to help Rochford continue to progress next season while also rediscovering his love for the game.

“I didn’t really enjoy my rugby last season and I’ve come to Rochford to get that back because a lot of mates are playing here now,” said Gay, who was with Thurrock last term.

“It’s exciting what’s going on at Rochford at the moment and I’m pleased to be a part of it now.

“They had a great season last year - winning the league - and I’m sure everyone in the squad wants more success again next season.

“I want to play my part in that happening and I think this really is the best move possible for me at this moment in time.”

Rochford Hundred will be lining up in London One North next season and will be hoping to push for a second successive promotion.
