A BILLERICAY youth team has won a national football tournament at England’s training ground.

Billericay Town Colts Blue Under-10s competed at St George’s Park in Burton-on-Trent for the Champions of Champions final and were in unbeatable form.

They won three of their four matches to finish top of a five team table.

It came after they triumphed at the regional ESF Festival of Football at Butlins’ Bognor Regis site.

The team was made up of Jack Thomas, Harry Young, Jack Williams, Blieu Leadbeater, Harry Wellman, Stanley Moran, Reiss Lowe, Caiden Robinson and captain Oscar Hutt - all aged 10.

And Lee Williams, who coaches the team with Tony Thomas, said it was a memorable experience.

“It’s a great achievement for the boys not only to win the regionals but then to go on and win the national tournament at the England training ground,” he said.

“At a time where everyone is so excited about football it was great to win.”

Competing against 111 other teams in the under-10 age group, the Colts - who play in Echo League 1 - beat Protec Youth 1-0 in the quarter-finals, Parkwood Rangers 1-0 in the semi-finals and Pymmes SFA in the final in Bognor Regis on penalties.

Five under-10 age group winners were then invited back to St George’s Park, with Billericay coming out as winner in the last game.
