MATT Southgate will be in familiar territory when he bids for more Open success this week.
The Southend-based 29-year-old finished sixth in last year’s event to automatically qualify this time around.
And that will see Southgate - who tees off tomorrow morning - playing on a Carnoustie course he already knows well.
“It’s a tough course but my dad became a member there years and years ago and my 16th birthday present for getting to scratch was membership there too,” said Southgate.
“It gave me the opportunity to learn links golf but it’s a tough course.
“It suits my game normally but I’m not looking too far ahead. I’ll just be taking it shot by shot and my aim is to shoot four good scores.”
