THE Southend and District Badminton Association have held their annual presentation dance.

Awards were handed out to the champions of each of the 10 divisions in the different leagues.

Leighway returned to winning ways in two of the three Premier Divisions they took part in - the Ladies Premier and the Mixed Premier.

Westcliff won their first Men’s Premier title in eight seasons.

And FitzWimarc were also celebrating as they continued their dominance of the Masters Premier Division with another title success.

The trophies were handed out to the winners of the various tournaments from across the season.

The Peter Gibbs Cup was lifted for a third straight year by East Thurrock, with FitzWimarc the runners-up.

The Reg Harris Trophy saw Jo Howard-Simpson and Vikki Walker take home the ladies doubles title.

Adam Sibley and David Wenn won the men’s doubles event at the same competition.

The Minette Mixed Handicap Tournament was another successful one for Vikki Walker as she triumphed with Ben Bradford.

The Ecko mixed handicap, which features just players from the higher divisions, saw Kesh Naidoo and Courtney Downey take home the trophy after some impressive performances

Tim Baskett lost out in the Masters Mixed Doubles final last year but this time won it with new partner Tracey Carey.

Medals were also given out to the winners and runners-up from the Southend and District Badminton Championships which took place back in May.

Toby Moon became only the second player ever to win all three restricted events.

He won the men’s singles, the men’s doubles with Kesh Naidoo and mixed doubles in fine fashion with Jade Timms.

The lower division men’s doubles was won by Ben Bradford and Conor Atay while there was success for Dawn Muggleton and Liz Cullen in the ladies and Clare Roberts and Peter Brumwell in the mixed.

Finally, President of the Association Mike Worship handed out the most prestigious award of the year, the Bernard Chandler President’s Award.

This year it was presented jointly to Malcolm and Birgit Bryant who are both long time committee members.

Malcolm produces the end of season magazine which this year celebrated its 30th edition.
