ALAN Julian believes Billericay Town have recruited well ahead of the new season.

Billericay’s National League South campaign - following their Isthmian Premier League title win last term - gets underway this weekend.

And Town’s first choice goalkeeper believes Harry Wheeler’s charges are in a strong position heading into the clash with Truro City on Saturday.

Julian said: “Pre-season has been good.

“I honestly feel we are stronger than this time last year.

“It will be harder, but we have recruited well and that can only be good.

“We have brought in the likes of Scott Doe, Ben Gerring and Moses Emmanuel, who I won the National League South with before.

“I played with Callum Kennedy at Gillingham and he lives around the corner from me, so we share lifts and that is a big help.”

Billericay will compete in their final pre-season friendly of the summer when a youthful West Ham United XI visit the AGP Arena tonight.

And alterations have been made to the club’s coaching set-up since winning the treble last term.

Wheeler is in charge, with owner Glenn Tamplin taking a step back and fulfilling the role of assistant manager.

Tristan Lewis has also joined Danny Hazle as a first team coach and will be in the dugout this season.

But Julian, who counts Stevenage, Gillingham and Bromley among his former clubs, insists the alterations will not affect Billericay’s promotion bid.

The 35-year-old added: “In terms of the set-up of the management team, it was Glenn and Harry last year as well.

“It worked and we had an amazing season, although it was unfortunate the way we went out of the FA Cup and FA Trophy.

“In my mind, it is great to look back on, but it has gone now and it’s about the next challenge.

“It is basically Glenn and Harry again and it is the same guys involved. It will work.

“We have a great chance to do well this year.

“I think the league will be the strongest it has been for a long while with the teams in it.

“You have to win the league to be promoted automatically, but we can do it.”

And Julian will be looking to go into the new campaign having kept a clean sheet in front of the Billericay faithful tonight.
