Dominated for 75, let ourselves down for 15 and it proved costly. If it wasn’t for the keeper we’d have given them a hiding.

@danbasildonblue

Lots of fans seemed to think we were already promoted before the season had started. I feel like that’s a wake up call. Their keeper had a blinder but the finishing wasn’t good enough. To get anywhere near promotion we’ll need to improve.

@samgoody23

The lack of cutting edge in the final third was the main problem last season and from Saturday’s viewing we’ve not recruited anyone to make it any better.

@wellstoneacrow

The lack of goals could well cost us again this season. Should have been at least three goals up at half-time. Defending in the second half was unacceptable. Need another striker by Thursday. MOTM was Robinson for his pace and effort when it was most needed.

@johnfrench52sky

Shouldn’t have lost and an exciting fightback. But we’ll do nothing this year if we are that profligate up front and make that many mistakes at the back. For that reason not impressed with Hopper and Lennon.

@moorhouse79

Frustrating afternoon and need to start putting chances away. On a positive note at least we’re creating the chances and showed some fighting spirit after going three goals behind. Unfortunately it was too little too late.

@brodystopher16

Lose the first game, win the League. That’s the Southend way. Plus Donny are our bogey team. Season starts next week. We’ll probably go 20 games unbeaten now.

@daz_poz

Three pathetic goals. Should have taken advantage when on top in the first half. Like to see more game time from the subs who came on.

@alexelnino10

Frustrated rather than disappointed. We’ll play worse than that this season and win games. Thought all the new lads looked good, especially Tom Hopper. Onwards to Plymouth

@ryanstubbs_

Should have put the game to bed in the first 20 minutes but we let them back in. Not sure how we didn’t get three points from that one but some positive signs from Dieng and Barratt when they came on.

@abettingtipster

A naive performance from start to finish. Donny soaked up the early pressure and then hit us as soon as we stepped off the gas. Early promise from Hopper and Barratt. Robinson has to start at the expense of Cox. Turner will want to forget that performance.
