C&K Basildon Ladies were condemned to a second heavy defeat of the season as they were put to the sword by Cardiff City.

A 5-0 win was claimed by Cardiff, who included five players who have been called up to the Wales squad to face England in a European Championships qualifier next week.

C&K Basildon joint-managers Les Thompson and Luke Pierre handed debuts to Grace Gillard and Madeline Thomas, while Georgia Raby appeared in the starting line-up for the first time.

C&K Basildon were in unfamiliar surroundings as the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division fixture took place at Concord Rangers’ Aspect Arena instead of the Frost Hire Stadium, the home of Canvey Island.

But Cardiff got off to the perfect start as they raced into a first minute lead.

Buoyed by the early goal, Cardiff put the home defence under considerable pressure but resolute defending initially kept the visitors at bay.

Cardiff doubled their advantage after 15 minutes, while they grabbed two quick goals shortly before the break to give C&K Basildon a mountain to climb.

C&K Basildon improved after the interval, with Raby and Ella Tooley passing up half-chances to reduce the deficit, but Cardiff completed the scoring 10 minutes from time.
