ISAAC Hutchinson enjoyed an ‘unbelievable’ Southend United debut after sealing the Shrimpers’ 3-1 win against Cambridge United tonight.

The 18-year-old bagged Blues’ third goal of the night, less than two minutes after replacing Simon Cox in attack.

And Hutchinson was delighted to see the ball hit the back of the net.

“It’s unbelievable, “said the youngster.

“I was happy enough just to get the opportunity to come on and the goal made it even better.

“I wasn’t going to shoot but then it opened up and I decided to have a go.

“It was a great feeling and it’s my first ever professional goal so I won’t ever forget this moment.”

Hutchinson – who prefers to play in a central attacking midfield position but can also play out wide – joined the Shrimpers in the summer after impressing on trial with the under 23 team.

The youngster had been with Brighton & Hove Albion for the previous eight years and was surprised to get the call up from Blues boss Chris Powell.

“I didn’t expect a chance with the first team this soon,” said Hutchinson.

“I only joined in the summer but I’m happy to got this opportunity and goal.

“Everyone has helped me massively and my team-mates were a big help when I came on.”

However Hutchinson – who was invited to train with England’s under 16 side earlier in his career – is now hungry for more chances.

“I’ll be happy to be involved but a League debut would be nice,” said Hutchinson.

“I’ll keep my head down and keep working hard.”
