ROCHFORD Hundred skipper Harry Hudson insists he will be more determined than most to triumph on his return to Southend Saxons tomorrow.

Hudson was one of 14 former Southend players named in Rochford’s matchday squad last weekend.

But the back row - who joined Rochford from Rosslyn Park in the summer - is keen to secure a win at Warners Bridge.

“I think among the players it will be just another game but, personally, there is a bit of extra spice on it for me,” said Hudson.

“Some members of their staff tried to sabotage my relationship with my former team, jeopardising potential contracts.

“But there are some friendly faces there, such as Macca (Andrew McClintock), Vaughany (Chris Vaughan), Crawley and Strangey (Nathan Strange) and it will be good to see them.”

Rochford’s director of rugby Chris Green took charge of the club having previously been in charge of Southend and brought many of the club’s players with him to Magnolia Road.

The new-look team won London Two North East without losing a game last season and kicked off the new campaign with a commanding 74-0 win against Amersham & Chiltern on Saturday.

But Hudson has already forgotten about the opening day victory.

“It was very pleasing on Saturday and a lot of boys stepped up and played well, but it’s over now,” said Hudson.

“It’s about this weekend now and we need to win to progress towards our goals so hopefully that’s the case.”

Rochford will be looking to impress against their local rivals and their director of rugby Green is looking forward to being back at Warners Bridge.

“It will be nice to go back and see some old faces,” said Green.

“I was at Southend for 17 or 18 years but we have our own goals now and it’s just about going there and doing what we can to win the game.

“Saturday was a good start and a good win but we still felt as though we left about another 20 points out there.

“We don’t want that to happen again tomorrow.”

Danny Cleare scored two of Rochford’s tries at the weekend but the winger feels it will be strange lining up against his former side.

“I was at Southend for 10 years so it will be a little bit weird going back and playing against them,” said Cleare.

“We can’t grumble too much about the win at the weekend and, for me, it was nice to be back playing pain free again.

“Last season I was injured and only played a few games.

“But this year I’ve had a good pre-season and I’m feeling good again.”
