BASILDON begin life in London Two North East at home to Woodford tomorrow.

Basildon won London Three Essex last season.

And influential fly-half Sam Ridley cannot wait to get going at the higher level.

“After the success of last season I can’t wait to get going again,” said Ridley.

“Pre-season has gone well, we’ve put in some solid performances and, along with a number of new signings, we’re heading into the new season in a strong place.”

But Ridley is fully aware of the size of the task facing Basildon this term.

“Going up a league is always going to be a test,” said Ridley.

“You’re facing a new challenge but we will just take each game as it comes and do our best week in, week out to get a good result.”

Woodford finished ninth last time around.

But Ridley will not be thinking too much about the opposition.

“Woodford will be a strong side but we will stick to our game plan and not focus on too much else,” said Ridley.

“Every team wants to start the season off with a win and we’re no different.

“We’ve had an excellent pre-season and we’re ready for the challenge at the weekend.”

Basildon have worked hard to strengthen their squad since last season’s promotion.

And Ridley knows where opposing teams may differ this term.

“Sides in this league tend to have a bigger pack and that’s where every side will look to be dominant,” said Ridley.

“There’s no doubt it’s a step up, but every side has their strengths and weaknesses and it’s about exploiting those. We’re ready for a new challenge and I, personally, can’t wait to see what this season has in store.”
