CONCORD Rangers fought back and claimed a 1-1 draw against National League South leaders Woking.

Greg Luer gave the visitors the lead, while substitute Duane Ofori-Acheampong’s red card proved pivotal as Billy Knott levelled matters for Sammy Moore’s side as the clash ticked into the 90th minute at the Aspect Arena.

After Tyrone Sterling did well to head a dangerous Woking cross behind for a corner, Beach Boys goalkeeper Sam Beasant made a fine save with his legs after the set piece ricocheted goalwards.

Concord responded with central defender Aron Pollock sending a volley on target, but Woking goalkeeper Berti Schotterl was equal to his effort.

Max Kretzschmar then rose above Frazer Shaw only for Beasant to make an easy save, but the visitors took the lead just before the half hour mark as former Billericay Town winger Nicky Wheeler sent a deep cross into the Concord penalty area. The cross was headed across the face of goal and Luer was on hand to find the back of the net – for the first time in Woking colours – from close range.

Jack Midson felt he should have been awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time as he was clearly pushed by visiting defender Kiran Khinda-John when going up for a header, but referee Steven Hughes waved away the appeals.

The Beach Boys should have been back on level terms less than five minutes after the interval as Knott’s dangerous cross found an unmarked Alex Wall, but the summer signing’s effort was directed over the crossbar.

Midson then passed up a golden opportunity as the striker sent a Pollock flick-on – from a Jed Smith throw – over the crossbar from close range.

Woking were reduced to 10 men with 15 minutes remaining as Ofori-Acheampong was shown two yellow cards in quick succession. The substitute was booked after refusing to move back 10 yards when defending a Beach Boys free-kick, while the referee then gave the striker his marching orders for dissent.

And the red card was to prove costly as the Beach Boys grabbed a share of the spoils thanks to Knott lashing home late on.

Meanwhile, Billericay Town got back to winning ways as Adam Cunnington and Moses Emmanuel came off the bench and scored in a 2-0 victory at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Hemel created the majority of the chances in the first half and Billericay were lucky not to fall behind midway through the first half as Joe Howe passed up a presentable opportunity.

Former Concord captain Steve Cawley then struck the crossbar with a header four minutes before the break and Billericay were lucky to make it to half-time still on level terms.

However, Town broke the deadlock three minutes after the break as half-time substitute Cunnington headed home from close range.

Hemel goalkeeper Laurie Walker then made a superb save to deny Callum Kennedy from five yards out.

Rickie Hayles cleared a Hemel effort after a goalmouth scramble in the Billericay penalty area and the hosts were able to leave with a clean sheet.

Emmanuel then grabbed a second for Billericay in stoppage time to allow the visitors to secure a welcome win.

Elsewhere, there was late heartbreak for East Thurrock United as they lost 4-2 to St Albans City.

Sam Merson put the Saints in front after 25 minutes, heading home a lofted free-kick delivered by David Noble.

However, Rocks hit back a minute later as Sam Higgins found the back of the net from the penalty spot.

And the game was turned on its head just after the half hour mark as Jack Simmons converted for East Thurrock.

However, Richard Sho-Silva headed home with two minutes to play at Rookery Hill and Merson and ex-Concord Rangers winger Khale Da Costa scored in stoppage time to allow St Albans to win all three points.
