FORMER Southend United captain Anton Ferdinand is on trial at St Mirren.
Ferdinand made 71 appearances for the Shrimpers before leaving at the end of August.
But the 33-year-old defender could now be heading to Scotland with St.Mirren manager Oran Kearney confident Ferdinand’s experience could prove key.
Kearney told the Scottish Sun: “I chatted to him for a couple of hours and it looks like there is still a real good hunger and desire to do well.
“Having made that step from Championship to Premiership, players like him with his CV and experience could possibly be worth his weight in gold to some of the younger players around.
“It is probably more about seeing where he is physically.”
St Mirren are currently 11th in the Scottish Premiership and host champions Celtic on Friday.
